Membership Information for the Athletic Bands Students interested in being involved in the Athletic Bands should attend one of the 'Music Performance Opportunities' sessions while they are on campus attending CTOPS (Carolina Testing and Orientation Program Sessions). Following each of these sessions, information will be distributed regarding membership in the Athletic Bands. Students who will be attending the August CTOPS should contact the band office (919-962-5695) for membership information.
Auditions are required for prospective members of the Drumline. Drumline audition camp is held just prior to band camp each fall. Prospective students are able to move into their residence hall on Sunday and sessions begin Sunday evening. Sessions continue on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday the remainder of the band reports to camp. Students attending will be provided meals on Monday and Tuesday and the remainder of the week as part of the band camp experience. Auditions are also required for prospective members of the Color Guard. Guard audition camp is held just prior to band camp each fall. Majorette auditions are held during the Spring of the year, by appointment with the Director of University Bands. Each individual auditioning must be an admitted student who has paid the enrollment deposit. The audition consists of an original routine that includes the use of 1, 2, and 3 batons and streamer(s). Each routine must also include a flat section and the following tricks: toss illusion; toss cartwheel; two turns; rolls; finger twirls; and catching left-handed, right-handed, under-leg, and behind-the-back. In addition to performing the original routine, each individual will be asked to demonstrate a variety of tricks with a variety of catches.
