Membership Information for the Athletic Bands
(Marching Band/Olympic Sport Pep Bands/Basketball Bands)

Students interested in being involved in the Athletic Bands should contact the band office to schedule a New
Member Registration appointment as soon as they have received confirmation of their assigned date to attend CTOPS (Carolina Testing and Orientation
Program Sessions), which all newly admitted
students must attend. Interested student will be given a time to meet with the Director
of University Bands or a staff member to discuss membership expectations and register for the ensemble.
Auditions are required for prospective members of the Drumline. Drumline auditions are held during a summer
weekend camp, which is typically scheduled for the last weekend in July. The schedule for the weekend camp is 6:00 pm -
11:00 pm Friday, 9:00 am - 10:00 pm Saturday, and 9:00 am -
1:00 pm Sunday. Students needing housing are asked to bring
a sleeping bag along and are assigned to stay with one of the
returning members Friday and Saturday evenings. Students attending
will be provided a snack on Friday evening and lunch on Saturday.
There is no charge for the audition camp.

Majorette
auditions are held during the Spring of the year, by appointment with the Director of University Bands. Each individual auditioning is required
to perform an original routine that includes the use of 1, 2,
and 3 batons and streamer(s). Each routine must also include
a flat section and the following tricks: toss illusion; toss
cartwheel; two turns; rolls; finger twirls; and catching left-handed,
right-handed, under-leg, and behind-the-back. In addition to
performing the original routine, each individual will be asked
to demonstrate a variety of tricks with a variety of catches. Email Mr. Fuchs (jfuchs@email.unc.edu) to schedule an audition.
