MIAMI trip

We have distributed (via email) invitations to attend the MIAMI game to those students who will graduate this year. Due to travel limitations, only those students who are fully involved this semester and who have been fully involved at least 2 previous semesters were invited. Those who volunteered for the RUTGERS trip were excluded in keeping with the information that was included with the call for volunteers for the RUTGERS trip. In the event we need addition students to make the trip, graduating members who were not invited will be contacted first. Beyond those students, we will ask for volunteers as necessary. We will not necessarily replace students who were invited but elect not to make the trip. Thanks for your understanding and please, let me know if you have questions. jf Jeffrey Fuchs Director of University Bands Chair, Department of Music Scholarship Committee The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 106 Hill Hall / 145 East Cameron Avenue / CB #3320 Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27599-3320 919-962-5695 (voice and facsimile) jfuchs@email.unc.edu for more information about the UNC Bands, visit www.uncbands.org

Guitar Hero count sheet

Attached is the count sheet for the Guitar Hero show. Please mark your music before rehearsal tomorrow evening.New folks -

  • read the count sheet from left to right such that you get the following information:
at measure 1 (m1) use 16 cts to float to picture (page) #2 with your horn facing front.
  • float is our way of saying use all 16 steps to get to the new location - adjusted step size, in other words.
  • MT refers to mark time.
  • when we say mark your music, we mean to actually write the commands on your music so you know when to go and where to stop. Once you get the
drill you may want to write coordinates on the music so you can check your location. Some will actually use different color highlighters to indicate where to move and where to stand. The bottom line is that you should do all you can to help you remember when to move, when to stand and any other information that will be helpful in your effort to march and play a perfect show.See you all tomorrow night.jfJeffrey FuchsDirector of University BandsChair, Department of Music Scholarship CommitteeThe University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill106 Hill Hall / 145 East Cameron Avenue / CB #3320Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27599-3320919-962-5695 (voice and facsimile)jfuchs@email.unc.edufor more information about the UNC Bands, visit www.uncbands.org

Open House with Chancellor Holden Thorp (fwd)

from Anthony Sawyer: I'm a member of the Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor, and I was wondering if I could somehow send the following email out to the band listserv. This would be a good opportunity for students to meet the new chancellor, and provides an opportunity for them to ask questions. Message to Students: Dear Carolina Students, The Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor is hosting Chancellor Thorp's first Open House with students from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26 in the Student Union. The topics for discussion are listed below. Please note that there is time available for "open questioning" when you can ask the Chancellor about any and all issues facing students. Refreshments will be provided, and you may come and go as you please. AGENDA * Who is Chancellor Holden Thorp? What does and what should he do for students? * Academics at Carolina * Safety and Security (Department of Public Safety Chief Jeff McCracken will attend) * Open questioning Members of the Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor will also be in attendance. As your liaison to the Chancellor, we encourage you to suggest issues for us to bring to Chancellor Thorp this year. For most of you, this is your first opportunity to meet and interact with Chancellor Thorp. This Open House serves as your ticket for access to Carolina's new leader. Please stop by and inform our new Chancellor of what concerns and interests Carolina students. Thank you, and we hope to see you Tuesday at 4:30 in the Fish Bowl Lounge! Sincerely, The Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor ---------- End Forwarded Message ---------- Jeffrey Fuchs Director of University Bands Chair, Department of Music Scholarship Committee The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 106 Hill Hall / 145 East Cameron Avenue / CB #3320 Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27599-3320 919-962-5695 (voice and facsimile) jfuchs@email.unc.edu for more information about the UNC Bands, visit www.uncbands.org
